That’s great for Google. But, starting from June 1st, 2021, Google Photos will stop providing its free unlimited storage option. After this new rule comes into effect, you’ll only get 15 GB of space to store high-quality images, contacts, call history & much more things. Once the limited storage space is over, you’ll have to increase the existing storage by purchasing the monthly or yearly Google One subscription. Let’s get started:
Google One Pricing
Once the limited Google Drive storage space is over, you can upgrade the storage space in 6 of these different tiers: ✅100GB at $2/month ✅200GB at $3/month ✅2TB at $10/month ✅10TB at $100/month ✅20TB at $200/month ✅30TB at $300/month When you purchase any of these plans, storage is not the only thing you get. Along with each of the available plans, you get: ✅An option to add a family member to your Google One Plan. ✅Access to Google Experts. ✅Extra google photos editing features like Portrait Light & Portrait Blur. ✅Up to 10% cashback on a purchase at the Google Store. ✅VPN service for Android users with Google One plan of $10 & above. ✅Automatic backup services. If you think these services are beneficial for you then go ahead & purchase a Google One subscription plan as per your requirements. P.S. With my one-year subscription plan, I got $5 in Play Store credit.
Google Drive Alternatives
Google One is not the only option for you to increase your cloud storage space. There are many alternatives that you can use to store your photos/videos online. And these are some of the popular ones:
Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft’s cloud storage service provides only 5 GB of free storage space. Once that is over, you can purchase 100 GB of it at $1.99/month.
Dropbox
Dropbox comes in 3 plans: Basic, Plus & Family.
The basic plan lets a user get access to 2 GB of cloud storage space free.Dropbox plus plan comes with 2 TB of storage space for a single user at $9.99/month.Lastly, the dropbox family plan comes with 2 TB of storage space for up to 6 users at $16.99/month.
Mega
Mega.io comes with Individual & Business plans. And the individual plan is further available in 4 unique plans: ✅The pro-Lite plan comes with 400 GB storage space at €4.99. ✅Pro I plan comes with 2 TB storage space at €9.99. ✅Pro II plan comes with 8 TB storage space at €19.99. ✅The Pro III plan comes with 16 TB storage space at €29.99. Note: With the purchase of a one-year pro plan, you get additional 2 months of Mega pro. I’ve got a Google Pixel 4 XL smartphone. Do I need to subscribe to any of the available Google One plans? At the time of the announcement, Google made it clear that Pixel 1,2,3,4,5 devices will continue to get free unlimited storage space post-June 1, 2021. However, as Android Central reported, future pixel smartphones won’t be getting the same benefits. Can I delete the backup files from 15 GB of free data & reuse them to store the data? Yes, you can. However, as soon as the limit reaches 15 GB, google drive will stop backing up online data into it. Must check: Google Announces Major New Google Maps
Conclusion
If you save HD images using the Google Photos app, then 15 GB of available storage space in the entire Google account may not be enough. I know this is bad. But after June 1, 2021, there’s nothing you can do about this. You can either go ahead & upgrade your storage space using Google One or switch it to its alternatives. That’s all for now.
